The Ancestors and Descendants of Floyd Cohoes. The
Photo Lineage of the Larkey Family
John Blackwell was born in 1775.
His son George was born in 1801. In turn, Henry, fifth son of
George
Blackwell
was born in 1839.
Henry Blackwell 10.2.5 emigrated first to New York in 1851
and then after
spending three years
on his own
working in New York from age 11 to 14, he
traveled to Ontario, Canada to meet with his
father and
brothers. They then left a few short years
later for Minnesota and arrived there in 1857.
Henry met and married
Amanda VanLoon, daughter
of Minor VanLoon and Charity Davenport.
From this union, came a number of
children.
Their first
born was Mary Janette Blackwell. She married Frank
Mackenzie. In turn, their daughter,
Ruth
Emma Mackenzie married
Charles Cohoes. From this union a number of children came.
One
of those children
was Floyd Cohoes who eventually married Neva Briggs.
From this marriage came
Marilee Suzanne Cohoes.
Marilee came to be
married to Louis Larkey. In turn, they also had a
family that is shown
in this
website as well.

Death of
Baby
Upon the death of Mary Janette
Blackwell
it was reported that the baby also
died. However, the baby survived. Kathryn Johnson, a
resident of Minnesota and a provider of information to this website, has found
newspaper clippings
explaining why there was such confusion over the apparent
death of Mary Janette and her daughter named Mary Jane.
"We had a newspaper account of the death of Mary Janette on Dec. 25, 1900.
That report said her death was followed by her
newborn baby. I recently
located the following newspaper account from the Alexandria Citizen of Jan. 10,
1901.- Page 8, Col. 4.
It states - """We were wrongly informed in regard
to McKenzie's newborn baby and told that it died at the same time as its
mother.
The baby is still living and doing well.""".
Kathryn Johnson has also been able to find confirmation
of the birth rite of Frank Mackenzie. It had been reported that
Franklin
was the son of William L. Mackenzie. Another account stated he
was the son of John McKenzie. Kathryn has found a report in
the Alexandria
Post of Jan. 24, 1901 an item that was in turn, from the Hutchinson, Minnesota
Newspaper which stated that the
wife of Franklin McKenzie (Mary Janette) had
died. It also states that the McKenzie's came to Hutchinson in 1856 and
from
there came to Holmes City. It says Franklin was the son of John H.
McKenzie and a nephew of William McKenzie.

After the death of Mary, Frank
married Miss. Lilly Moses of Battle Lake,
Minn. in 1915.
Note: Mary was not of age so Henry Blackwell (her father) signed
for her.
Witnesses were Emma V. Blackwell
(wife of Stephen VanLoon who remarried to James
W. Blackwell 10.2.6)
and Henry Blackwell 10.2.5.
Married by John Salmons.
One of Mary Janette's children, the second born, Ruth Emma Mackenzie,
was the
person that continued the
line into the present day Larkey Family. It was Mary Janette (10.2.5.1)
that died during child birth on Dec 25, 1900.
